snowcake

Every once in awhile, I have to show my artsy side! The Professor and I watched a wonderful independent film last night, snowcake, starring Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver. It's a beautiful film about an unlikely friendship between Linda, a woman with high-functioning autism and Alex, a tough but emotionally wounded man.

It's not just an "autism" movie, more about healing, acceptance, karma, and snow. I laughed, I cried. I ate a lot of popcorn!

Plus, being on a gluten-free diet is kind of running joke in the movie!

Seriously, though, great film. I've been waiting for months for it to come out on dvd and make its way up my Netflix list!

You can check out the trailer here at the film's official website.

Wow! 1st of all, the prince's artwork is all fabulous!

2nd of all...thanks for the tip. Is it like Mozart and the whale???
I liked that one too.

I love my boy's drawings too! He is doing a "series" of ghosts for Halloween but doing them on the computer. I'll have to put a couple of those up later.

"Snow Cake" is different than "Mozart and the Whale" but just as good. Don't want to give too much away, but I think you would really like it.

After I read your post I got straight on the phone to our local video/DVD rental store to try and get a copy - no luck on that OR Mozart and the whale - that's the joy of living in a rural area! I'll have to try elsewhere, it sounds great!

Elissa, have you tried Netflix? You sign up online, they have differnt plans. We are on the cheapest ($5 per month for 2 movies). You make a list of the movies you want to see (they have a huge selection). Then they mail you the first item on your list, you watch and mail it back, no time limit, (they provide envelope-postage pre-paid). When they receive your returned one, they send the next one on the list. Since you live in rural area, it might be good if you like independent or foreign films. Just a thought! I don't live in a rural area, but we love the convenience.

Ooh, it's available on Netflix? I must see it--I saw Sigourney Weaver talk about the film just prior to its release. The film was nowhere to be seen in my local theaters, so I'm glad to hear that I can now rent the movie.

P.S. to Elissa,

Oops! I just realized you are not in the US. I don't know if Netflix has an international service or not. Oh well, it was just a thought!

Thanks for the movie tip- I'm always looking for good indie films to add to my Netflix queue. I loved Mozart and the Whale; and also check out Breaking and Entering- with Robin Wright Penn (as a mother of a child in the autism spectrum). The theme of autism is woven into a larger story line, but I always get excited when gluten-free casein-free is mentioned- a part of the plot! ;)

Oooh I'm definitely going to check out this movie. I love Alan Rickman. And they have GF jokes? This is the movie for me.

Welcome back, Karina!
Thanks for the movie tip, I'll have to check it out for sure.

Kira, if you love Alan Rickman, you will love this movie. Apparently the screenwriter wrote the role with him in mind.

Thanks Katherine for the tip on Netflix. I may have to look for something else being in Australia, but I'll check it out anyway!
